About
Christian Fikar is Full Professor of Food Supply Chain Management, located at the Faculty VII of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition and Health in Kulmbach, Germany. His research focuses on business management issues in food supply chains, particular in relation to time-critical logistics processes and the provision of computer-based decision support.
He studied supply chain management at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and subsequently received his PhD and habilitation from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna. Afterwards, he continued his scientific work at the Vienna University of Economics and Business until starting this position at the University of Bayreuth. During his studies and research activities, he completed several stays abroad, mainly in the USA, Taiwan, Spain and most recently at the HUMLOG Institute of the Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki, Finland.

Focus Areas
His teaching and research interests are in areas of operations research, operations management, and business analytics with the goal of increasing resilience, sustainability, and efficiency of food supplychains. For example, he investigates the effects of different logistics decisions in the home deliveries of food. This enables more efficient processes and additionally contributes to a reduction in food waste. The focus here is primarily on short food supply chains, i.e. regional supply chains to analyze these networks in detail and to sustainably promote them through teaching and research activities.
